2011 Art-A-Whirl:
The infamous Northeast Arts District art crawl, Art-A-Whirl, will be held May 20 -22. Studios will be open Friday, May 20 from 5:00-10:00pm, Saturday, May 21 from noon-8:00pm and Sunday, May 22 from noon-5:00pm. Our studio/gallery, Dock 5, will be hopping with activity that weekend. Several guest artists will be joining us, including a couple of jewelry designers. We will offer some fun art demos as well as snacks and lively conversation about art. Don't miss this great celebration of local art. I have many new paintings, including a colorful and energetic series entitled "Fluidity." This year, many of my new works are in the $200 - $400 range.
Group Exhibit:
Five other artists and I have put together a proposal for a group exhibit. We are called the "Escape Artists," since we are expanding our artistic horizons and "escaping" our usual way of approaching our art. Our proposal has been accepted at the Hopkins Art Center and we are continuing to prepare for the exhibit which will take place in March of 2012. The proposal, "Master Manipulations," will feature our interpretations of various master paintings.
June First Thursday Performance Art:
On Thursday, June 2 at 7:00pm, the "Escape Artists" will be performing their version of creating a Jackson Pollack type painting together. This exciting event, which will take place in the Dock 5 gallery, will be filmed. A local cellist, Anna Vasquez, will enliven the event by tailoring the music to the creation of this work. The film will be used as an installation in front of that painting during the group exhibit. Be sure to come and add to this frenetic and exciting event.
Open Saturdays:
We continue to be open most Saturday afternoons. Please check the Northrup King Building website www.northrupkingbuilding.com for a complete listing of open studios on any given Saturday.
